The audiovisual compositional mode corresponds to forming meaningful relationships between soundtrack elements and film images. The intersonic compositional mode corresponds to sound-object design and to the forming of meaningful structural relationships between soundtrack elements. The term ‘sonic arts’ characterises the compositional tenets of the sound design approach, which takes the form of an inter-modal strategy based on the interdependence of two compositional modes. Over the course of the research, a broadening practical knowledge of theoretical applications influenced the development of the sound design approach and its conceptual framework. An interdisciplinary conceptual framework that combines selected theories of electroacoustic music and apposite perspectives from film soundtrack studies informs the approach. This practice-as-research study documents the development of a sonic arts approach to film sound design. The last dimension of this project is meant to be a contribution to the sonic representation of space in films and in computer generated virtual environments by producing simulations of acoustic shadows. Acoustic Shadows, a multimedia interactive composition is being developed on the premises of the ecological approach to perception. Artistic this project explores a new artistic expression based on the creation and exploration of complex multisensory environments. Practical like echolocation, perception of acoustic shadows can be improved by practice, this project intends to contribute to the acknowledgment of this way of listening and to help individuals placed in noisy environments without the support of vision acquiring a detailed detection of the movements occurring in these environments. The goal of this study is triple: -Theoretical for various reasons, this kind of acoustic situations has not been extensively studied by traditional acoustics and psychoacoustics, therefore, this project demonstrates and supports the pertinence of the Ecology of Perception for the description and explanation of such complex phenomena. The approach to studying and exploring this phenomenon is primarily based on the framework of the ecology of perception defined by James Gibson (Gibson, 1979) in the sense that it focuses on the direct auditory perception of events, or “structured energy that specifies properties of the environment” (Michaels & Carello, 1981 P. His paper examines the question of auditory detection of the movements of silent objects in noisy environments. Through the practical experience gained by the above, a number of conclusions can be drawn regarding the advantages of the achieved enhanced experience through audiovisual immersion, technical issues, difficulties and potential applications and developments for future reference. engages combined knowledge in the fields of mechanical structuring, creative design, audio/visual processing and projection through specialized software and hardware. At a later stage, projecting the material through a mobile immersion platform such as A.R.T.E. During such a process, a number of decisions need to be made regarding proper planning, choice of field recording equipment, techniques applied and a series of problems to be solved. The project ‘optic-acoustic ecology’, coordinated between 2012-2014 by the TEI of Ionian islands, Greece, involved the seasonal recording of natural outdoors environments, aiming at the documentation and study of the natural heritage of the Ionian Sea, and the utilization of current digital technology for synchronized audiovisual capture and projection, which enhances our experience of the natural environment. (Artificial Restoration of Transmuted Environments). This paper refers to the audiovisual recording, transformation and projection of natural spaces, describing the technology and methods for capturing panoramic sound and image, and the technologies and processes involved in projecting the recorded material through the mobile immersion environment A.R.T.E.
